Huffin' 'n' a puffin' ...

Desperate to lose the 3cm (doesn't sound like much, but to me it is an insane amount) that has become lodge around my waist line I began my new routine...

I am sure the next door neighbours think there is a crazy living next door; jumping up and down on the deck, running up and down the lawn and generally huffing and puffing trying to complete my first circuit.

It is all documented and a time frame given, I just have to say NO to all those little evening snacks that husband enjoys ... Hhhmmmm

Oh well here is to a much thinner me, much love all!

“Would you shut that child UP!”

Waiting with a little chap, his family was from Aitutaki

September 19th saw Milly go under the knife for her first eye operation. Which she handled very well.  She fell asleep as she was being wheeled into surgery so the Anesthetist had a very easy job, this was commented on by not only the surgeon but the other half dozen surgical team in the room. I did however say to the surgeon as I left, “You take care of her!”
All the hospital bits!

After waking in recovery she was not at her happiest and this was where as she cried I was in tears too!  She eventually ate some ice cream and chocolate pudding with her eyes shut the whole time.  Uncovering the plated hospital meal I was okay with her not wanting it as neither did my dad or I who were starving due to being in the hospital since 11am and it was nearer to 9.30pm when they released Milly!
Waking up in the recovery room...
The following Tuesday we were back at the hospital for a check up and to be given the all clear to fly the following day.  This went well and we were in and out of the hospital in record time.

I have only positive comments to make on the hospital staff and surgical team they where helpful and very understanding to us all.  Making the visit over from Rarotonga for the surgery they accommodated us well!

This is very different to the flight home…

Milly was on her fifth post-op day and was dealing with very sore eyes as we reached 30 minutes out of Rarotonga and coming down to land.  The airhostess had asked for me to lower the hand rest and raise the window shade which I did waking Milly up in the process as she had finally given in to sleep and rested on my lap…

The sun was glaring straight into her eyes and all she wanted was to shut the shade, which of course is not allowed and trying to explain it to a sore and tired child was not working. She began to hit and scream for the next ten minutes. A parent’s nightmare in any small confined space! I was still trying hard to pacify her when a man yelled out, “Would you shut that child UP!”  The man sitting beside Milly looked at me and said “Ignore him, he probably doesn’t fly well”. I simply burst into tears!  Because at the end of the day I LOVE having my child in pain and hitting, punching, screaming and shouting at me.  In fact I make her do it on purpose I enjoy the experience so much! W**KER! I was very lucky to have had a lovely chap in the seat next to Milly and some lovely people in front and behind.

But the dream flying experience with Air New Zealand did not end there. I had to exit the plane… Two seven kg bags and a tired tearful child trying to get down the aisle, then down the shiny, reflecting stairs.  As the airhostesses were ver busy in their own conversations I was offered no help.  Thankfully the lady that had been sitting behind me offered to take Milly’s hand down the stairs as she could barely see with swollen eyes.  Poor Husband was greeted to a very tearful wife that ended the trip in a collapsed heap in his arms!

A big thanks to all those that wished us well or helped us through this time.

Much love all x

The response after sending an email to Air New Zealand thanks to Amanda Inskeep:

Dear Ms Fiebig

Our office recently received your message regarding your travel experience with us onboard NZ746 on 26 September 2012.

I regret to read you were subjected to a comment onboard by another passenger in relation to your daughter Emily. Please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of Air New Zealand for any inconvenience or discomfort this comment may have caused. I appreciate how challenging air travel can be at the best of times. To be travelling with a child in Emily’s condition, would have only added to these challenges.

It is thus disappointing if passengers conclude that the only reason a child is crying onboard is because they are unsettled. This is both an incorrect assumption as well as inconsiderate toward parents. I again regret the actions and comments of this particular passenger.

Your frustrations would have only been heightened by the lack of assistance provided by the crew member when deboarding your flight. We certainly provide assistance toward elderly and infirm, parents with young children as well as passengers with medical conditions. It is thus unfortunate if the crew member was not aware of your situation or the condition of your daughter. Regardless, crew need to be proactive whenever onboard and offer assistance in various situations. I regret if this was not made evident upon your arrival. Please be assured your comments have been forwarded to the Flight Service Manager to convey toward staff on duty on this occasion.

Ms Fiebig, thank you again for bringing this matter to our attention. It is only with such feedback that we are able to make improvements in specific areas of our operation. I trust we have an opportunity to welcome you both back onboard again soon, albeit without incident.

Yours sincerely

Once upon a time I had a cute, cuddly little lad that would always listen and want to please his mum.  Now it is a battle every day! As a surly 14 year old is trying to find his way in the world.
If I happen to say that the colour of something is green he will argue it is purple with pink spots. We seriously had a disagreement once of what colour the Golden  Arches are! I said yellow, he said green. He has been tested as colourblind! If I say it something is $37 he will say no it's not  it's $36.54.  Tonight I said to him "your light is on, flick it off ah?" His response "I didn't turn it on!" Hmmm, "Well I am not asking if you turned it on, I just want it off". BUT, if we were to argue about it... I know I did not turn it on, and George and Milly are too short to reach and Brendon is currently in New Zealand soooooo, that leaves one person.  He will fight till the bitter end that it was not him that turned it on. Again I say to you, I just wanted it turned off?!

We as parents are repeatedly asking for things to go back in the right place so as they can be found again.  My second battle tonight was the bike pump. If it was put away properly he surely could find it each time??? But again the neighbours enjoyed the battle of our loud wits as he was searching for the bloody thing.  There was blaming George for having taken it and then the little lad who we keep finding in our back yard and oh yes, it was me, I took it! *#@*! Once he found it the blame continued... I had seen it dropped in the wrong place by said 14 year old the last time he used it! haha

Does it get any easier and when it does am I going to be doing it all over again with TWO at the same time! At the moment it is a case of picking the battles and having more wits... and appreciating those rare times of a battle free house or when he is all cute and cuddle...Sleeping!

A Night to Remember...

When I heard our school was having a ball as part of the fundraising we need to do each year all I could think was 'only if I was in New Zealand!' A place were I could have a chance to find something to wear! For the last couple of weeks it has been the topic of conversation in the staffroom what to wear and were to try to buy dresses or shoes. Fortunately Fairy-god Mother Jo came to my rescue and after an afternoon of trying on dresses and my children running a muck in her house she lent me a beautiful red number... Many thanks Jo!
All is well, the start of the night and yet again another photo
where I blink at the flash!  The gorgeous Rachel and I mixing drinks...
Well, I have just recovered (its 1pm Sunday arvo) from last nights efforts at our schools fundraiser Fire and Ice Ball... It has been a very long time since I have had more then four 'adult' drinks in one sitting! Because the venue was just down the road from us I had offered to host the pre-ball drinks. Milly was most excited to see all the beautiful ladies and dresses and kept getting caught out of bed ogling the ladies.  I was amazed at my very talented friends that made their dresses.  They were indeed a 'fiery' and stunning looking bunch!
Tamer then the last pre-ball I attended (in 1995!)
Sadly husband was suffering from tooth ache and in a lot of pain, but being the kind hearted bloke that he is he managed the whole night and even managed a smile....
Dapper chap!
As I was up dancing I looked around and noticed the floor was ONLY women. The male partners were all standing on the side lines watching their women folk pound the dance floor! Even funnier was the fact that we were still conversing in between singing the songs of course.  Talk about multi tasking!
Pounding the dance floor with the good old left foot, right foot tap! haha
I did manage to drag hubby up onto the dance floor as I mentioned the fact everyone around him had been drinking and they look far funnier in his eyes then him in theirs...
Enjoying the evening!
The band was fantastic 'The Mermaids' from New Zealand had come over to play and went though the 80's, 90's and beyond.  It was when they got to the beyond years that I turned to husband and said my now new line ...
"Hold onto the crazy!"
He did not listen as I very quickly got swept away by two different ladies who had partaken in a few more of those 'adult' drinks then I.  The pounding of the dance floor stopped and bounding started it was like a sea of red elephants released through the masses. I was only saved as I grabbed hold of a friends hand on the way past! Clutching on for dear life, I am not looking forward to seeing the photos of that part of the night.
Looking good!?

Locomotion is a MUST!
The night was fantastic, shoes got broken, (not mine) skirts got hitched  and smiles were worn all night.  I look forward to hearing of the financial success that this wonderful event has meant for the school as the team that put it together deserve a big congratulations and our thanks! A night to remember...
The Mermaids band
And the band is coming to school on Monday afternoon to sing to the kids!

Much love all and remember...
"Hold onto the crazy!"

From the mouth of babes...

Currently, with great disgust from my husband I am teaching Milly to reply to the question of "how are you" with... "Physically and emotionally I am well, thank you". She is getting very good at saying the sentence but needs coaxing when asked as she is still replying with a simple, "good".  So tonight as husband walked away with raised eyebrows and a very loud exhale of breathe I continued the lesson. We managed till about the sixth time when she replied to my, "how are you Milly?" with... "Physically and emotionally you are unwell".  Hmmm from an almost three year old and she already knows her mother well!
Yesterday as I was taking the register in class one of my darling told me that I looked 'beautiful'. I replied "oh do I? Thank you". She quickly added 'yes you look just like a zebra'.  Slightly deflated I gave myself a metal note not to wear my black and white stripped cardie again!

This arvo someone really wanted to watch TV and as I said there where lots of chores to do off he went to help...

Much love all x
